1. Introduction

Biblatec (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have about your information when you use the Biblatec service.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — email address, display name, username, and profile picture (provided directly or via Google OAuth)
  • Profile information — bio, website, and any other details you choose to add to your public profile
  • Content you post — books, ratings, reviews, captions, comments, and reading lists
  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, and interactions within the app (collected via analytics)
  • Device information — browser type, operating system, and IP address

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Display your profile and content to other users
  • Provide personalised book recommendations and content
  • Send you notifications about activity related to your account
  • Improve the Service and fix bugs
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in and to understand how the Service is used. We may use analytics tools (such as Vercel Analytics) that collect anonymised usage data to help us improve performance and user experience. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect the functionality of the Service.

5. Third-Party Services

Biblatec relies on the following third-party services:

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Google OAuth — used as an optional sign-in method. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Books API— used to search for book metadata (titles, authors, cover images). Search queries may be sent to Google's servers.
  • Amazon Associates— “Buy” buttons link to Amazon product pages via our affiliate programme. Amazon may place cookies on your device when you follow these links. See Amazon's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Anonymised or aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — update or correct your information via your profile settings at any time
  • Deletion— delete your account and associated data from within the app's settings
  • Data portability — request an export of your data by contacting us at legal@biblatec.com

8. Children's Privacy

Biblatec is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Any disputes relating to this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the UAE.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
